2003 Field Hockey Awards
The 2003 UCAA End-of-Season Awards, announced November 7.
2003 UCAA Player of the Year
Colleen Barber Skidmore
Senior Midfielder (Fort Ann, New York)
A standout player for four years, Barber dominates the midfield with passing
and finesse. She will play in the North/South senior all star game. Skidmore's
all-time assist leader with 51 and has 121 total points, she is a two-time
captain of the Thoroughbreds and a three-time All-America selection. Her 21
assists are tops in the nation in regular season play.
2003 UCAA Rookie of the Year
Sophie Dennis William Smith
Forward (Port Byron, New York)
Dennis leads the UCAA in goals and is second in points in overall competition.
She is one goal and six points shy of William Smith records for a first-year
player. Was named UCAA Offensive Performer of the Week and
WomensFieldHockey.com National Co-Rookie of the Week on October 26, and was
twice chosen UCAA Rookie of the Week. She scored the game-winning goal in
overtime to beat Skidmore in a game that decided the UCAA regular-season title.
2003 UCAA Coaching Staff of the Year
Sally Scatton William Smith
Scatton, along with assistants Heather Standring and Lisa Kadien, led a Heron
team with just one senior and 17 underclassmen to a 13-4 record, including a
perfect 7-0 in conference play. William Smith defeated seventh-ranked Skidmore
and 20th-ranked Susquehanna during the season.
