The 2004 UCAA End-of-Season Awards, announced May 7.
2004 UCAA Player of the Year
Lucas Ruglis Rensselaer
Senior Midfield (Kingston, New York)
Ruglis has compiled 30 goals and 25 assists in 14 games while captaining
Rensselaer to an 11-3 regular season record and a second place finish (5-1) in
the UCAA. Ruglis was a second-team UCAA selection in 2002 and a first-team
selection last season.
2004 UCAA Rookie of the Year
Ryan Michels Rensselaer
Goalkeeper (Wilmington, Delaware)
Starting all 14 of Rensselaer's games this season, Michels averaged 10.6 saves
per game while backstopping the team to an 11-3 overall record and a 5-1 finish
in the UCAA. Michels was named UCAA Defensive Performer of the Week on March
29 and was a two-time UCAA Rookie of the Week this season.
2004 UCAA Coaching Staff of the Year
Mike Mahoney St. Lawrence
Mahoney and assistants Pat Harrington, Chris Apblanalp and Kevin Kiley have
guided the Saints to an 11-2 regular season record and a perfect 6-0 mark in
UCAA play. The Saints are ranked 11th nationally entering this weekend's UCAA
tournament.
