2004 Men's Outdoor Track & Field Awards
The 2004 UCAA End-of-Season Awards, announced May 19.

2004 UCAA Outdoor Field Performer of the Year
Trevor Tersmette   Rensselaer
Junior (Barneveld, New York)
A two-time UCAA Field Performer of the Week, Tersmette was the UCAA outdoor champion in the high jump and the 400 meter hurdles. He added third place finishes at the UCAA meet in the 110 meter hurdles and the long jump. At the NYSCTC championships, Tersmette was the high point scorer of the meet with a first place in the high jump, a second in the decathlon, third places in the long jump and 400 meter hurdles and a fourth place in the 110 meter hurdles.

2004 UCAA Outdoor Track Performer of the Year
Adam VanNortwick   St. Lawrence
Sophomore (Saranac Lake, New York)
VanNortwick was both the UCAA and the NYSCTC champion in the 1500 meters this season, and added a second place finish in the same event at the ECAC championships with an NCAA provisional qualifying time of 3:53.54. VanNortick was also the fastest leg on the St. Lawrence 4x800 meter relay which broke a 15-year old NYSCTC record at the state meet.

2004 UCAA Outdoor Rookie of the Year
Seyamack Afzali   St. Lawrence
(Chicago, Illinois)
Also named the UCAA Indoor Rookie of the Year, Afzali was third in the 200 meters and fourth in the 100 meters at the UCAA championships. He added third and fourth place finishes respectively in the 200 meters and 100 meters at the NYSCTC championships.

2004 UCAA Outdoor Coaching Staff of the Year
Mike Howard   St. Lawrence
Mike Howard guided the St. Lawrence Men to second place finishes at both the UCAA championships and the NYSCTC championships. Assisted by Deb Lyndaker, Erin Newman, John Newman, and Justin Sievert, Howard coached St. Lawrence athletes to six individual event wins at the UCAA meet.

The 2004 UCAA End-of-Season Awards, announced April 2.

2004 UCAA Indoor Field Performer of the Year
Dwaine Alleyne   Rensselaer
Senior (Upper Marlboro, Maryland)
Alleyne was the UCAA champion in the triple jump and the 55m hurdles this season and added third place finishes in the long jump and high jump. At the NYSCTC championships, he was crowned the 55m hurdles and triple jump champion for the fourth consecutive year. Alleyne was an All-America selection and the runner-up in the triple jump at the NCAA championships.

2004 UCAA Indoor Track Performer of the Year
Sean Washington   Union
Senior (Dale City, Virginia)
Washington defended his 55m title at the UCAA championship meet and earned another title in the NYSCTC championship meet winning the dash with a time of 6.49 seconds. At the NCAA championships Washington earned All-America status for the second consecutive year with a seventh place finish in the same event.

2004 UCAA Indoor Rookie of the Year
Seyamack Afzali   St. Lawrence
(Chicago, Illinois)
Afzali was named NYSCTC Rookie of the Year on the heels of a victory in the 200 meters and a fourth place showing in the 55 meters at the state championship meet. At the UCAA championship meet he was second in the 200m, fourth in the 55m, and anchored the 4x400m relay to a second place finish to help St. Lawrence to the team title in the meet.

2004 UCAA Indoor Coaching Staff of the Year

Mike Howard guided the St. Lawrence Men to their second consecutive UCAA championship and a third-place finish at the NYSCTC championships. Assisted by Deb Lyndaker, Erin Newman, John Newman, and Justin Sievert, Howard also had two athletes earn All-America status at the NCAA championships.
