2004 Men's Crew Awards
The 2004 UCAA End-of-Season Awards, announced May 27.

2004 UCAA Crew of the Year
Varsity Eight   William Smith
The Herons' Varsity 8, comprised of from cox to bow, Jess Hardy, Amanda Gutwin, Edwina Wilson, Libby Weick, Cassie Priest, Laura Batchelor, Nicole Balsamo, and Lisa White have had a strong spring racing season. Ranked second in New York State and ninth nationally, the crew earned UCAA Boat of the Week honors after posting a 17.24 second victory over RIT. At the UCAA Championships the Herons were impressive, outracing Vassar by 5.4 seconds to capture the league title. The boat also boasts a victory over Pacific Lutheran early in the season.

2004 UCAA Novice Crew of the Year
Novice Eight   St. Lawrence
The novice eight boat (Caitlyn Carlson, Chelsea Isdell, Paula Bogart, Vanessa Harvey, Kristen Harvey, Heather Mason, Deanna Ashline, Ryane Lokey and coxswain Elizabeth Pimentel) had an outstanding season as they placed first at the UCAA Championships, first in the Gilman Cup and Plate and edged Colgate at the Colgate Boathouse Dedication. The Saints were placed as high as third among Division III schools and were ranked third in New York State. The boat qualified for the ECAC National Championships and placed third in their heat as Virginia Tech beat them by a tenth of a second.

2004 UCAA Coach of the Year
Sandra Chu   William Smith
Second year Head Coach Sandra Chu led the Herons to the inaugural UCAA Championship this spring, garnering wins in the Varsity 8, second Varsity 8, and Novice 4. Helping the Herons to a No. 2 ranking in New York and a No. 9 nationally, she also guide William Smith to wins over RIT, Pacific Lutheran, and Hamilton in the spring racing season.
