2004 Men's Football Awards
The 2004 Liberty League End-of-Season Awards, announced November 16.

2004 Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year
Jason Hardwick   Merchant Marine
Junior Tailback (Johnstown, Pennsylvania)
Hardwick rushed for 1508 yards this season, carrying the ball 294 times total and into the end zone on 12 occasions. His rushing total was tops in the league by more than 600 yards. Hardwick was named Liberty League Offensive Player of the Week three times this season and twice named to the D3Football.Com Team of the Week.

2004 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year
Chris Purtell   Hobart
Senior Defensive End (Sardinia, New York)
The leading tackler for the league champion Hobart Statesmen, Chris Purtell was a three-team selection on the D3Football.com Team of the Week. Purtell anchored a Hobart defense that did not allow a 100 yard rusher all seaosn and ranked first in the league in rushing defense, scoring defense, and red zone defense.

2004 Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year
Miguel Concepcion   WPI
Senior Kick Returns (Fall River, Massachusetts)
Concepcion averaged 35.1 yards per return handling 13 kickoffs for the Engineers this year, ranking second in the NCAA in that category. His longest return of the year was 93 yards for a touchdown at Hobart on October 2.

2004 Liberty League Rookie of the Year
Brett Young   St. Lawrence
Tight End (Sanbornville, New Hampshire)
A two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Brett Young was the leading receiver for St. Lawrence compiling 429 yards on 29 catches. He is the first rookie to lead the Saints in receiving in more than eight seasons.

2004 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year
Mike Cragg   Hobart
Cragg led the Statesmen to an 8-1 overall record, including a perfect 7-0 Liberty League record, while securing the program's third consecutive conference championship and third NCAA Tournament berth in five years. His Statesmen have completely rewritten the program's record book, breaking 16 team and individual game, season, and career records this year, including most points (315) and touchdowns (43) in a season. The previous marks for points (311) and TDs (43) in a season were set in 1997 in 10 games. Assisting Cragg this season were Kevin DeWall, Randy Grenier, Terry Muffley, John Manley, Scott Yoder, Matt Daley, Craig Swanson, and Aaron Backhaus.
