2005 Men's Crew Awards
The 2005 Liberty League End-of-Season Awards, announced June 22.
2005 Liberty League Crew of the Year
Varsity Eight Hobart
The varsity eight of Dan Gilbert, Michael Hoepp, Michael Grenier, Gavin
Johnstone-Butcher, Joe Jameson, Matthew Monbouquette, Rob Reinheimer, J.M.
Chadonic, and Gardner Loring captured Boat of the Week honors once this spring.
The crew was won twice and captured bronze medal honors at the New York State
Championships. Just missing qualifying for the grand final at the ECAC
Championships, the varsity eight dominated conference opponents, outracing two
other boats by more than eight seconds in the makeshift regatta after the
Liberty League Championships were cancelled.
2005 Liberty League Novice Crew of the Year
Novice Eight Hobart
Hobart's novice eight of Cary Wasserman, Alex Tye, Trippe Duke, Campbell Woods,
Richard Klein, Kevin Corbett, Andrew Meunier, Vince DeFabo, and Mark
Vogelgesang placed third in the New York State Championships, besting the eight
from Army, and finishing more than eight seconds ahead of the next Division III
boat in the final (5th place Ithaca). Hobart's novice eight did not lose to a
Division III boat all season, capturing gold in the Wylie Coyote Chase and the
Head of the Fish.
2005 Liberty League Coach of the Year
Mike Guerrieri Hobart
In his third year, Guerrieri guided the Statesmen to another strong year of
racing. Winning nearly half of their races this spring, the Statesmen dominated
Liberty League opponents at a makeshift regatta at Union College. Hobart won
each of the four races after the Liberty League championships were cancelled.
Guerrieri also helped guide the varsity four to the silver medal at the New
York State Championships, while the varsity eight and novice eight took home
bronze medal honors. Against a very competitive ECAC Championship field, the
Statesmen just missed qualifying for the grand final in the varsity eight
competition.
