The 2005 Liberty League End-of-Season Awards, announced May 14.
2005 Liberty League Player of the Year
Julie Gawronski Union
Junior OF (Dunkirk, New York)
A two-time Liberty League Performer of the Week, Gawronski ranks among the NCAA
Division III national leaders in three categories: RBIs (13th), batting (26th),
and runs (27th). She leads Union in batting, runs, hits, doubles, triples, RBIs
and slugging. She has hit safely in 28 of 34 games, and had an 11 game hitting
streak during the season.
2005 Liberty League Rookie of the Year
Catherine Kielb Union
Catcher (Rensselaer, NY)
A two-time Liberty League Rookie of the Week, Kielb has hit safely in 27 of 33
games in her first collegiate season. She has hit safely in nine of the last 10
games entering the NCAA Regionals, hitting .484 during that span. On the
defensive side she made just two errors in 144 chances, and had only two passed
balls in her first collegiate season.
2005 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year
Peter Brown Union
Peter Brown and asistant Brian Speck are the Liberty League Coaching Staff of
the Year for the third consecutive season after guiding Union to a
school-record 30 victories, one of only 11 Division III teams in the country to
win 30 games this season. The Dutchwomen are ranked #8 nationally, the highest
ranking in the program's history, and have won 27 of their last 28 games
heading into the NCAA Regionals.
