Stephanie Finn St. Lawrence
Junior (Golden Bridge, NY)
Finn had an impressive week in Hilton Head, SC, winning all three matches at the number one spot to help the St. Lawrence women's tennis team finish undefeated. The Golden Bridge, NY native had a 6-0, 6-0 win against Misericordia, helping the Saints sweep the Cougars 9-0. Finn went on to 6-2,6-1 win against Wittenberg, contributing to St. Lawrence's 7-2 victory. On the last day of competition, Finn defeated a ranked opponent from Wilkes by a score of 6-1, 7-5. Along with her impressive singles play, Finn stood out in doubles competition with her teammate senior Casey Gilman. The tandem won two matches and were leading in the third prior to a rain cancellation. |
Liberty League Co-Performer of the Week
Nicole Pontee Vassar
Senior (Chicago, IL)
Pontee went 5-0 at No. 1 singles in Vassar's Spring Break trip to California, upping her spring record to 7-0 and her season record to 17-2. Most impressively, Pontee earned a win against No. 9 nationally ranked Pomona-Pitzer, rebounding after being swept in the first set for a 0-6, 7-5, 6-2 win. Pontee had dominant wins against Cal Lutheran, Westmont College, and Colorado College dropping just five games in all three matches combined. Against her Occidental College opponent, she won the first set 6-2 and though she dropped a 6-1 second set, she rebounded with a convincing 6-0 third set victory. Additionally, Pontee and partner Joy Backer were 3-2 at No. 1 doubles. The Brewers went 4-1 in California, their only loss coming to Pomona in a tight 5-4 decision. |
Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
Nataly Mendoza Skidmore
(San Francisco, Calif.)
Mendoza went 2-0 at #4 singles and #1 doubles in a 9-0 win at Conn College. She pulled out a close singles victory, winning 7-5 in the deciding tie breaker. Teamed with Danika Robison for an 8-3 win at #1 doubles.

Liberty League Co-Rookie of the Week
Jennifer Ruther Vassar
(Carpentersville, IL)
In Vassar's Spring Break trip to California, Ruther went 5-0 at No. 4 and 5 singles to improve her spring record to 7-0 and her season record to an impressive 13-1. Ruther dropped just 14 games in all five matches, allowing more than two games to her opponent in any set on just one occasion. At No. 5 singles, she breezed through her matches against Occidental, Cal Lutheran, and Westmont, dropping just five matches combined. Playing against No. 9 nationally ranked Pomona, Ruther had her closest match with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. In the final match of the trip, Ruther moved up to No. 4 singles against Colorado College, defeating her opponent 6-1, 6-2. The Brewers went 4-1 in California, their only loss coming to Pomona in a tight 5-4 decision. |
