The 2007 Liberty League End-of-Season Awards, announced November 13.
2007 Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year
Andrew Strom Hobart
Senior Quarterback (Novato, California)
A unanimous selection as Liberty League Offensive Player of the Year and a
seven-time choice as Offensive Perfromer of the Week, Strom broke Hobart
single-season records for passing yards, pass completions, total offense yards,
completion percentage, and pass efficiency. He led the Liberty League in
passing yards, total offense, pass efficiency, completion percentage, and
completions.
2007 Liberty League Defensive Player of the Year
James Alexander Hobart
Senior Cornerback (Beverly, Massachusetts)
Alexander led the Liberty League in interceptions and passes defended, and
ranks among the national leaders in those categories as well. Through November
11 he is second nationally in interceptions per game with eight in 10 contests,
and fourth in passes defended per game, averaging 2.0 per contest. He was a
two-time selection as Liberty League Defensive Performer of the Week.
2007 Liberty League Special Teams Player of the Year
Dominick Ancona Hobart
Senior Kicker/Punter (Garden City, New York)
A unanimous selection as Liberty League Special Teams Player of the year,
Ancona broke Hobart single-season records for PATs made and points by a kicker,
and led the Liberty League in points by a kicker, field goals, PATs made, and
punting. He was a nine-time selection as Liberty League Special Teams
Performer of the Week.
2007 Liberty League Rookie of the Year Clarence Onyiruika Rochester
Running Back (Painted Post, New
York)
Onyiruika was a three-time selection as Liberty League Rookie of the Week and
was also honored as Offensive Performer of the Week on October 29. His 10
rushing touchdowns scored this season rank third among all Liberty League
Players, and his 663 rushing yards rank fourth. He scored multiple rushing
touchdowns three times this season.
2007 Liberty League Coaching Staff of the Year
Joe King Rensselaer
King and his staff led Rensselaer to an 8-1 overall record this season,
including a 6-1 mark in the Liberty League and a share of the league
championship. The Engineers earned an invitation to the NCAA tournament for
the fourth time in program history and the first since 2003. King is assisted
by Pat DelMonaco, Chad Martinovich, Bob Schoonmaker, Al Washington, John
Barber, Dan Cole, Pete Costanza, Will Headen, Kevin King, John Maletta,
Justin Pollizzi and Chris Sapp.
